Thus begins the song, “How Does a Moment Last Forever”, an original song created for the 2017 Beauty and the Beast movie, sung by Celine Dion.
Two different versions of this song were sung in the Beauty and the Beast.
The first one is when Maurice is remembering his dead wife, singing actual parts from the song by Celine. The second time is when Belle is remembering her childhood in Paris. She sings;

“This is the Paris of my childhood; these were the borders of my life. In this cold and dusty attic, where an artist loved his wife. Easy to remember, harder to move on. Knowing the Paris of my childhood is gone”

This song is beautiful, and once again Celine Dion brings us a stunning performance.

Reading the articles online about the song, you can see why this could be considered one of Celine’s best works. She dedicated this song to her husband, who passed away several years ago to cancer. And listening to the words, you can hear that she put a lot into this song.

She speaks about how “love pays no mind to desolation”. How love is not easy, but you still hold on, because love protects, restores, and love perseveres.
The first time I heard this song, I cried. It is so beautiful, and the words ring true. The words of this song remind me of the verse in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a, “Love is patient, love is kind… love never fails.”


True love never fails. True love, the love given by God, will last forever.

People say that you can fall OUT of love. That once you no longer feel the same way you did when you first “fell in love”, you can leave. You can leave, move on to the next person, go party, whatever you want. Because if you no longer love each other, that you should leave, because you deserve to love and be loved.


The problem with that logic, is that the feeling you felt when you “fell in love” is not love. That is infatuation. Love never fails, even when you’re struggling through your marriage, even when your spouse has cancer.

That is what I love about this song. It doesn’t talk about one night stands, hooking up, or falling in love with a girl who just says “Shut up and dance with me.” It is talking about love that goes on.

Minutes turn to hours, days to years and gone
But when all else has been forgotten
Still our song lives on

The love that doesn’t mind if the person you love is losing hair, or isn’t skinny or “sexy” anymore. The kind of love that loves all the more for that.

Maybe some moments weren’t so perfect,
maybe some memories not so sweet.
But we have to know some bad times or our lives are incomplete.

This song is perfect for the new Beauty and the Beast, as Belle and the Beast don’t always have good times. He scares her with his terrible temper; she frustrates him with her pep and curiosity. But they had to have those bad times, or the story wouldn’t be as beautiful.

I once had an adjudicator say to me that the most beautiful voice in the world is someone from Canada. “She is an amazing singer,” he said, “but people keep pushing her to sing more and more, it could wreak her voice… of course, I am talking about Celine Dion.”

In some ways I think he is right, but in this song, you can hear that “most beautiful voice in the world”, her voice isn’t wreaked yet. Her vocals are amazing and the words are gorgeous. This song may not be my favorite song from the new movie, this song is a close second, and absolutely beautiful.

Some people are saying that this is not one of Celine’s best works. Those people don’t know what they are talking about. They listen to the words, and hear something foreign. They are accustomed to one night stands, dirty language, and other naughty stuff. “Love is beauty love is pure” is a concept they are not used to. But this song is all about true love, and so it sounds strange to them, and they don’t like strange.

Celine Dion has touched many lives in the years of her career as a singer, and she continues to do it to this day.
